After months of rumors, Sony has finally revealed the new PlayStation Plus and its different tier levels.

The new PlayStation Plus service combines both the PS+ and PlayStation Now services into one monthly subscription.

PlayStation Plus Essential:

• Cloud storage
• Online multiplayer access

Monthly Price: $9.99 / £6.99 / €8.99

Yearly Price: $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99

PlayStation Plus Extra:

• Includes all benefits from Essential tier
• Up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games that are downloadable to play

Monthly Price: $14.99 / £10.99 / €13.99

Yearly Price: $99.99 / £83.99  €99.99

PlayStation Plus Premium:

• Contains all benefits from the Essential and Extra tiers
• An additional 340 games, including PlayStation, PS2, and PSP games
• Cloud streaming for PS2, PSP, and PS4 games
• Time-limited game trials

Monthly Price: $17.99 / £13.49 / €16.99

Yearly Price: $119.99 / £99.99 / €119.99

The new PlayStation Plus subscription service looks like a good deal on the surface, but is it a worthy rival for Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass?

PlayStation Plus Premium will cost you more monthly than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but there is an option to save by purchasing the yearly subscription.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get you more perks and games, including day 1 releases, which is something PlayStation Plus does not offer.

Both the Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus offer exclusive discounts and game trials, with the Xbox Game Pass offering select trials on EA Play exclusive titles.

There is no right or wrong game pass subscription, but we will have to see what future exclusives and offers PlayStation Plus includes to see if it will genuinely compete with Xbox.
