Monster Hunter Wilds Crash? Discover the Ultimate Checklist to Fix Your Issues!

Monster Hunter Wilds is the much-anticipated new chapter in Capcom’s famous action RPG series with online components. With Wilds taking us to the unexplored region of the Forbidden Lands. Featuring a new generation open-world adventure.

All developed on Capcom’s RE Engine, previously used on Dragon’s Dogma 2. But also on the celebrated Resident Evil remakes, particularly the most recent Resident Evil 4. The first stages of the Beta showed not exactly optimal performance, but with many hoping for optimization before the official release.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Performance Issues

With the release of Monster Hunter Wilds today, February 28, 2025, many were eager to try the new title over the weekend. But unfortunately, we have another launch affected by deep performance issues. These problems are mainly noticeable on PC, but they also affect PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to a lesser extent. The first feedback from players mentions numerous in-game crashes.

Accompanied by not only low frame rate issues but also instability on properly equipped systems. With many users searching for solutions to try to play. The peak of players has already exceeded 987,482 users in less than 24 hours. And Capcom is investigating the situation, offering “standard” solutions in the meantime.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Solutions for Fixing the Issues

While Capcom’s standard solutions focus on updating drivers and compatibility, typical solutions that have helped some at least get into the game. Here are some additional solutions found by users:

  • Disable Frame Gen: Specifically on Nvidia cards, disabling Frame Generation seems to fix in-game crash issues.
  • Compatibility: It seems setting compatibility to Windows 8 allows some users to launch the game. Right-click on the exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Enable “Run this program in compatibility mode” -> Select Windows 8.
  • Run the game as Admin: Similar to Compatibility, enabling the “Run this program as Administrator” option seems to launch the game for some users.
  • Disable FSR Upscaling: Disabling FSR seems to have reduced crashes for some users.
  • Disable Shader Cache: Disabling the Shader Cache option on Adrenaline (AMD) or the Nvidia Control Panel. Then delete the “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” folders in the installed game directory seems to resolve launch issues.
  • Latest AMD Driver: The latest non-WHQL drivers seem to fix flickering and crashing issues for some systems.
  • Reinstall the Game: A simple solution, but one that seems to fix startup issues for some users. We also recommend deleting the game folder before redownloading everything.

These are just some of the temporary fixes shared by users. It’s quite difficult to determine which fixes are the most effective due to the variety of issues such as crashes, performance, and visual bugs.

In Conclusion

In short, Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t having the best launch. In fact, we are seeing a repeat of the disastrous launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Although the new chapter of the MonHun series has still excited the community in terms of gameplay. Let’s hope that Capcom is ready to release the first patches and official solutions for the crash and startup issues.
