Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 – The New Features Coming

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Jorge Neumann, head of development for the upcoming chapter in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series, speaks enthusiastically about the new features coming to the most beloved simulator ever. Features that leverage many of Microsoft’s resources, bringing a new experience. We have:

  • Immersive Exploration: A major new feature is the ability to explore outside of vehicles, allowing for on-foot exploration in first-person. With many new landscape details and many new animals to complete the experience.
  • New Activities: In addition to the free exploration mode, we will also be able to enjoy a new experience with the new themed careers, with 17 confirmed at launch.
  • Improved Maps: Even more precise and detailed maps based on Bing maps, powered by Microsoft’s Azure AI.
  • Reduced File Sizes: Approximately 50 GB of disk space at launch, compared to the hundreds of GBs for MFS 20. Thanks to cloud data streaming.

When Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Releases

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 presents itself as a truly new simulation experience, which many will soon be able to get their hands on. In fact, the release date is scheduled for 19th November 2024, as presented at the last Xbox Game Show back in June.

With the release date just a few months away, the Microsoft and Asobo Studios team certainly has more news planned. And they will surely show more about the careers and exploration, perhaps during Gamescom 2024’s ONL on 20 August. We may also see some interviews with the team ahead of the launch. Although we don’t yet know the exact price, MFS 2024 is already confirmed to launch on Xbox Game Pass, and an important note is that the add-ons and DLCs from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 will be compatible with the new title at launch.
