Mass Effect to Become a TV Series – Amazon Teams Up with Fast & Furious 9 Writer!
Mass Effect fans get ready, as Amazon MGM Studios is developing a TV series based on the legendary games. Revealed on N7 Day, the upcoming series is being written by Daniel Casey of Fast & Furious 9. EA and Amazon are collaborating to bring the Mass Effect universe to Prime video.
A Mass Effect TV series is coming to Prime after EA and Amazon team up to create a live-action adaptation of BioWare’s RPG. The news comes after BioWare recently announced they are now focusing on Mass Effect 5 after Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
While fans look towards BioWare’s next Mass Effect entry, the timing seems perfect for a TV series. Amazon’s recent small-screen adaptation of Fallout proved to be a big hit, with a planned second season to come. Amazon has recruited Daniel Casey, writer of Fast & Furious 9 and 10 Cloverfield Lane, to write the show, with Karim Zreik, who previously worked on National Treasure and the Daredevil TV show as executive producer.

What Fans Can Expect from the Mass Effect TV Series
The news comes from Variety, but other than the writing team, we know nothing more. The original Mass Effect came out in 2007 and was the first game in a trilogy, which has since re-released as the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The trilogy follows Commander Shepard, an elite soldier in the 22nd century who takes on the Reapers to prevent a galaxy-wide mass extinction.
It would make sense for the Mass Effect TV series to follow the original trilogy, considering its place at the top of the RPG genre for its worldbuilding, story-driven action, and diverse cast of characters. Many fans hope for a story based around Shepard, whereas others hope it expands the universe without compromising the games.

Why This Adaptation Could Succeed
Excitement in the gaming community is high in anticipation, and Amazon is in a great place to deliver. Recently, live-action adaptions of games, such as the Borderlands movie and The Last of Us series, have seen success. Amazon has received praise for the Fallout series, The Expanse, and Wheel of Time.
Mass Effect has an already crafted and established universe. Casey’s experience with films like Fast & Furious 9 could mean high-intensity scenes, fast-paced storytelling, and thrilling action sequences to satisfy gamers and sci-fi enthusiasts.
