Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Loses Its Steam Deck Verified Rating
Valve has pulled the Steam Deck Verified rating on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, downgrading it to Steam Deck Playable.
While it’s not unheard of, it’s still rare to see a game lose its Steam Deck Verified status, especially a major title like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The Verified badge is supposed to be a guarantee that a game runs smoothly on the Steam Deck without any extra setup or tweaking. So when a title earns that status, it means it should meet all of Valve’s compatibility and performance standards out of the box.
But in the case of Spider-Man 2, things were already shaky from the start.
When Patch 3 dropped and the game received its Steam Deck Verified badge, players were quick to point out that it didn’t quite live up to the standards of other Verified titles. Performance was inconsistent, with frequent dips below 30fps, and many users found that they had to manually tweak graphics settings just to get the game to run at a steady pace. While it could technically run, it clearly wasn’t offering the experience the Verified badge promises.
Valve Downgrades Spider-Man 2 to Steam Deck Playable
After continued feedback and widespread reporting of the performance issues, Valve has taken action. The game has officially been downgraded from “Steam Deck Verified” to “Steam Deck Playable.”
Now, on the game’s Steam page, you’ll see a notice icon next to its Playable label. Clicking it reveals a message stating that Spider-Man 2 requires manual configuration to run well on Steam Deck, confirming what many players already knew.
While it’s unfortunate to see a big title lose its Verified status, it’s also encouraging to know that Valve is actively reviewing and reassessing Verified games based on player experience and real-world performance. The Verified badge should mean something and it’s reassuring to see Valve hold the standard, even after a game has already earned it.
So while Spider-Man 2 is still very much playable on the Deck, those hoping for a seamless, console-like experience will need to make some manual adjustments. Here’s hoping a future patch will bring it back up to snuff and maybe even re-earn that Verified badge down the line.
