Marvel Rivals is a new game based on the Superheroes and Super Villains of the Marvel Universe. Offering a 6-player team-based PvP Hero Shooter, coming on 6 December 2024, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Announced on 27 March 2024, Marvel Rivals quickly caught the attention of many. Offering the chance to play as your favorite Marvel character. Facing other players in a 6v6 game, completely Free-to-Play. With a strong focus on team play and map destructibility.
Developed and published by NetEase Games, Marvel Rivals offers adrenaline-filled gameplay with visually pleasant graphics. Thanks to the use of Unreal Engine 5 and a graphic style inspired by Marvel comics. Numerous Playtests and Betas have convinced fans, eagerly awaiting the launch on 6 December 2024.
Marvel Rivals, after several playtests, including one currently in China, is set to launch globally on 6 December 2024, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Free-to-Play model will offer over 25 Characters at launch, as revealed at the Opening Night Live of Gamescom 2024.
Marvel Rivals has undergone several Playtests starting on 10 May 2024, on PC, followed by Consoles and a Closed Beta on 23 July. Recently, players in China also experienced Marvel Rivals with an updated version. All the characters revealed so far will be available for free at launch.
The new Marvel Rivals offers a PvP Hero Shooter with a third-person perspective. Featuring 6-player teams, choosing from over 20 Superheroes and Villains from the Marvel Universe. As with any Hero Shooter, each character will have their own abilities and playstyle. Featuring new Team-Up Skills, allowing special combination attacks between different characters.
One of the appreciated features of Marvel Rivals is the destructibility of maps, creating not only dynamic gameplay but also allowing players to gain a tactical advantage. Players can alter the battlefield and adopt different strategies. All set on maps inspired by the most iconic locations of the Marvel Universe like Asgard and Tokyo 2099.
NetEase’s approach for Marvel Rivals is that of seasonal content. Each new Season will bring new characters, maps, and other in-game content. A typical choice for a Free-to-Play model. Accompanied by new content expanding the game’s storyline.
The Storyline will feature various Marvel characters dealing with Doctor Doom, who, along with his 2099 future version, is causing the collapse of the universe with the Timestream Entanglement. Each new Season will reveal new parts of the story, along with new game maps and characters.
With the launch of Marvel Rivals on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, many were hoping for Crossplay. This feature has been confirmed by the NetEase team to be available at launch, allowing players from different platforms to play together.
As for Cross Progression, which allows saving progress across different platforms, it has not been confirmed for launch. However, some games like Apex Legends received Cross Progression later on, such as with the Season 19 update in 2023.
