Light of Motiram is the new open-world survival game developed by POLARIS QUEST, a Tencent Games team. The game was recently announced and immediately showcased gameplay along with a release date. Its style is undeniably similar to the popular Horizon series, which sparked criticism from PlayStation fans.
This is particularly interesting because one of the showcases is on PS5. The gameplay showed a very different experience from Horizon, reminding fans of other franchises. The release date is set for 2025.
Light of Motiram – Tencent’s Post-Apocalyptic Survival Announcement
With the official announcement by POLARIS QUEST on 29th November 2024, the team introduced Light of Motiram. A survival action game set in a post-apocalyptic future dominated by dangerous, ferocious animal-like machines. These machines can be fought or tamed, integrating them into the survival and crafting system.
Motiram is built on Unreal Engine 5 and will launch on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. It will also be available on Android and iOS, with confirmation of a PS5 release. All with a Free-to-Play model and a 2025 launch date.
Light of Motiram – Similarities with Guerrilla’s Horizon Series
From the start, Light of Motiram drew strong criticism from Horizon fans. The visual style and setting were seen as a “copy” of Horizon’s. Additionally, the fact that the development team, POLARIS QUEST, belongs to Tencent Games didn’t help.
It’s worth noting that NCSoft is developing an MMO in collaboration with PlayStation, based on the Horizon universe created by Guerrilla Games. This places Light of Motiram in direct competition with the upcoming Horizon MMO, given Motiram’s survival and co-op nature, as highlighted in exclusive gameplay showcases.
Light of Motiram – Other Inspirations and Expectations
The recent gameplay seems to offer a fresh perspective on Light of Motiram. The reveal trailer positioned it as a game blending Horizon and Monster Hunter elements. However, it now seems to draw inspiration from titles like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved.
Motiram is clearly a survival game rather than an action RPG as initially believed. This shift left some players disappointed, while others are eager to try it as a multiplayer experience. The game supports co-op for up to 10 players.
