How To fix Gaming Performance Issues After Windows Update
A new Windows update is causing bluescreens, crashes, and gaming-related issues with AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA users. Below, we offer a couple of tips to help you get back to gaming.
The Windows updates being blamed in particular are KB5001330 and KB5001337.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
In a simple word, everyone. AMD and NVIDIA graphics card owners and users of Intel processors are all reporting issues.
WHAT ARE THE ISSUES REPORTED?
A quick search of reddit and google reveals a wide-ranging list of problems, including:
- BlueScreen of Death
- FPS Drops
- Consistent Stuttering
- Unstable V-Sync
- Game Crashes
WHICH GAMES ARE AFFECTED?
The games seeing the majority of issues include:
- Doom Eternal
- Call of Duty: Warzone
- Assetto Corsa
- Red Dead Redemption 2
HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEMS
We recommend two things to try if you are experiencing problems after the latest Windows updates.
Note: Uninstalling security updates can endanger your system. Only attempt if you completely understand what you are doing.
To uninstall a Windows update head to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. From there, you can scroll down to where it says Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows 10 and click Get Started.
Note: We recommend that you always install the latest Windows updates. Updates improve system security and performance.
To activate the energy-saving plan, you should click on Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
Switching the profile to High Performance or Ultimate Performance will hopefully help prevent performance issues.
