Gears of War developers, The Coalition, have released a couple of tech demos of Epic’s new Unreal 5 engine, and they show some impressive visuals.

UNREAL 5 ENGINE’S EXTREME DETAIL
In a real-time character rendering test, which you can see above, The Coalition treats us to a short video of a bearded man rendered in great detail using the Xbox Series X.
In the test, the man’s body contains 130,000 triangles, his face 31,000, and his hair and facial hair consist of 3.5 million.
The video is only 1 minute and 26 seconds long, but it highlights the potential of the Unreal 5 engine and next-generation consoles.
In a second technical demo video, they showcased real-time lighting and reflection.
The demo highlights the Nanite technology of UE 5 that allows for an unlimited triangle budget.
In the short presentation, which is only over 1 minute in length, there are more than 100 million triangles.
The tech demos are not part of any project that The Coalition is working on, and instead, the videos are a preview of what the engine is capable of achieving.
In May, The Coalition announced that they are working on a new game using Unreal Engine 5 and will be using the engine for multiple projects in the coming years.
Unreal Engine 5 is still in Early Access and will launch later this year for all consoles and PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.
