Dragon’s Dogma 2, the second installment of the series, finally released on March 22, 2024. However, the situation has unfortunately been plagued by numerous technical issues, making the title difficult to fully enjoy. This was compounded by Capcom’s heavily criticized decision to include P2W DLC, not to mention other questionable choices such as a single save slot.
After numerous criticisms over the past few days, Capcom’s team has finally released a list of upcoming content and changes with the next patch, aimed at improving the experience by addressing many of the criticized points.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: What are the patch changes
The new patch seems to bring some changes mainly related to gameplay and improving the initial experience with Dragon’s Dogma 2. The first point on the list addresses the much-discussed lack of multiple save slots. Previously, only one slot was available, and only after completing the game could we choose whether to continue or try New Game+. The latter allows us to start over while retaining equipment, level, and skills but losing quest progress.
The rest of the patch notes concern some text adjustments and bug fixes. Added to them is also the Art of Metamorphosis, at the center of criticism regarding microtransactions, now increased to 99 units available in-game. This item allows us to change the appearance of our character and main pawn, a practice widely used by players and previously very limited and usable only behind a payment of €1.99 per single use.
There will also be some changes with an improvement in Nvidia’s DLSS Super Resolution quality for PC, and the ability to disable motion blur and ray tracing on consoles, with unlockable framerate as a variable or up to 30.
When is the Dragon’s Dogma patch coming and what to expect from Capcom
The Dragon’s Dogma 2 team seems intent on bringing the new patch as soon as possible, as they are still fixing any related bugs. However, it must be said that this initial patch seems to just patch up a few things, but the bulk of the next updates will definitely be related to performance. In fact, Dragon’s Dogma 2 heavily suffers on the CPU side, seemingly caused by nothing other than NPCs. A peculiar fact that, combined with less than stellar GPU optimization, has led some dedicated channels, such as Gamers Nexus and Digital Foundry, to investigate the causes and analyze the performance.
Capcom has promised that the upcoming updates will indeed focus on performance, considering that the title has issues on both PC and Console. In short, the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has not been the best, and this seems to affect a game that, in terms of gameplay and story, has been quite well-received so far.
