Check Out the MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries Opening Cinematic

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a great MechWarrior game, but that’s about to change with the upcoming instalment, MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries. Developer Piranha Games wants to set up the story for new and returning fans with the release of the game’s intro cinematic.

There’s not much to watch here, no gameplay whatsoever. Instead, we get a glimpse of the events leading to the start of the player’s new adventure. Human greed has caused war to erupt between the great houses amidst great technological advancements that gave birth to mechanical war machines called Battle Mechs. Mercenary corps rose up to take on the job of waging war for the great houses in exchange for money and glory.

The MechWarrior series traces its roots to the BattleTech board games and is set in the same universe. MechWarrior 5 is set in a period called the Third Succession Wars and is the first mainline game to come out for the series in 17 years. Fans will fondly recall MechWarrior 2 and MechWarrior 3 winning accolades back in the mid to late ’90s. Now, fans hope to see the glory days of the franchise restored with this upcoming entry.

MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries launches on December 10th for PC. It is an Epic Games Store timed-exclusive.
