UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER is an action-adventure mech game developed by Endroad, climb aboard the legendary Grendizer the legendary mecha fighting the forces evil defending the planet Earth, adapted from the cult animated series by Go Nagai. After the destruction of planet Fleed by the vicious Empire of Vega, Daisuke takes refuge on our planet, with the invasion of Earth imminent Daisuke will defend the planet with the help of Grendizer, the titanic robot hidden deep inside Genzo Umon’s observatory.
Overall, Grendizer is a solid game with a clear love and passion for its classic super robot source material. It’s also very much meant for fans of Grendizer, otherwise much of its appeal and charm will be lost. It also clearly needed more time for polish and general graphical optimization. That said, it still plays decently with these shortcomings and is worth a look for those who want to pilot an old-school superrobot.
It’s a bog-standard action game for the most part, buoyed by some pretty fun shoot ’em sections that add some nice variety. And it’s further hampered by some technical issues that will hopefully be ironed out post-launch. In any case, fans of the show should get some kicks out of it, and newcomers might have some fun unraveling its story in an interactive fashion.
