Overpass 2 is an off-road racing sim with both offline and PvP races. There are 5 different race types, 30 vehicles from official brands divided by 3 categories and 4 different environments. Customize and adapt your vehicles to get the best performance depending on the conditions of the track and choose the optimal path in order to get to the finish line in the minimum amount of time. Overall, Overpass 2 looks like a promising off-road racing experience that should please the fans of the genre.
Nacon teamed up with Neopica to bring us the amazing off-road racing game OVERPASS 2. Their main objective was authenticity of mechanics and vehicle movements to immerse players in the gameplay. At the same time, the game has become quite challenging, and we’ll have to be skilled if we don’t want to fall behind on every race.
Graphically impressive, OVERPASS 2 lets us drive through beautiful landscapes and try our hand at 37 vehicles. Aside from the storyline, there are several racing modes, which makes this title packed with content. We’ll be able to customize each car with a range of options, defy our friends and take on challenges to put our skills to the test. In short, fans of dynamic racing games shouldn’t miss this release.
Overpass 2 is the sequel to Nacon’s Overpass, an off-road racing sim game released in 2021, which has received mixed reviews due to lack of fundamentals in the game core mechanics, mainly how the driving experience doesn’t reflect the real experience of driving off-road for a title that is sold to those who are fan of this experience. Though they also appreciated the visuals while being negative only to some aspects, while being unimpressed by others.
So with a big hurdle to overcome, Nacon’s released just a few weeks ago a simple 1 minute trailer of the game, showcasing mostly the visuals and a few animation, at times a bit janky but at others a bit promising.
So far Nacon seems to be confident with this new entry, announcing 31 new tracks, 5 game modes and 37 licensed vehicles on top of it. Of course the visuals have been heavily upgraded, with the new entry being handed to the dev team of Neopica confirming to be working heavily on the physics to recreate the off-road driving experienced with quads and buggies. Not to mention the usage of the brand-new Unreal Engine 5 as the game core, which should deliver in theory a great experience visually.
Set to be released on October 19th and only on current gen consoles and PCs, there seems enough room for a great game, built upon the “failures” and feedback received form the previous title. So for now we gotta wait to hear more and especially see something more concrete.
After the relatively mixed success of Overpass 1, Overpass 2 is back. But we’re not as pessimistic as all that, since a new studio has been entrusted with the task of erasing bad memories. Overpass 2 is an “off-road” racing game, i.e. off the tarmac, on bumpy roads, in rally and dakar mode – here, there’s no such thing as flat. The off-road vehicles have a rather strange design, but beyond that, Overpass 2 doesn’t offer graphics worthy of next-gen consoles. The budget probably doesn’t allow for it. Instead, the game relies on driving sensations and original, bumpy circuits, on which the choice of trajectory is essential, as is the management of jumps. We’ll have to see if development takes a better turn than the first opus, but it could be fun in the arcade with friends.
Neopica’s managing director, Peter Vermeulen, expressed his excitement in a press release about the release of OVERPASS 2, emphasizing its uniqueness as a game that caters to racing and off-roading enthusiasts. He stated that their team is dedicated to meticulously recreating the terrain physics, vehicle behavior, and the authentic sensations associated with this highly technical sport.
Alain Falc, the CEO of Nacon, added that the first installment of OVERPASS successfully introduced this challenging sport to off-roading and motorsports fans. However, they aimed to take the concept even further in OVERPASS 2. Falc highlighted the inclusion of additional content and improved physics made possible by utilizing the Unreal 5 engine.
