It seems that Borderlands 3 is off to a great start in the UK games market. UK games and interactive entertainment industry trade body Ukie revealed in their latest report that the latest instalment of the looter shooter has achieved the biggest launch of the year so far in terms of physical sales.
Unfortunately for Microsft, the Gears 5 launch tells a completely different story, selling significantly lower than previous entries in the series. Still, it’s important to note that Ukie only tracks physical boxed sales and it’s highly likely that many fans opted to get the game through an Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz seems to suggest the same:
Gears 5 chose a bad week to launch, and as a result sold a quarter of what Gears 4 did (again boxed sales). On paper, that seems disappointing and suggests the brand’s troubles continue. But we live in a Game Pass world. So who knows

Here are the top 10 sellers last week (ending September 14th):

The most notable newcomers are Greedfall and Daemon X Machina, both highly-anticipated games. Greedfall managed to land in 5th place but Daemon X Machina, a Switch-exclusive, couldn’t break into the top 10, settling only for number 19. NBA 2K20 enjoyed the top position the week before.
