Blizzard Rolls Back WoW Classic Hardcore Deaths for OnlyFangs Streaming Guild

Blizzard is rolling back the WoW Classic Hardcore deaths of popular streaming guild OnlyFangs following DDoS attacks. Although the company has always said it would not roll back deaths sustained in hardcore mode, Blizzard says it is doing so now as it was a “malicious effort” by a third party.

In a surprising move, Blizzard recently stated it will revive the characters of the streaming guild OnlyFangs, who died in a recent DDoS attack on World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore.

Despite the hard stance over deaths in Hardcore, Blizzard community manager Clay “Kaivax” Stone revealed in a forum post that “the severity and results of DDoS attacks specifically warrant a different response.”

A Closer Look at the Rollback Decision

On March 25, 2025, Blizzard took the unusual step of rolling back the deaths of characters in WoW Classic Hardcore – normally a perma-death mode – after a series of “intentionally malicious” DDoS attacks against streaming guild OnlyFangs, run by Thomas Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris and Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp.

While Blizzard has confirmed its “broader stance on character restorations or death appeals has not changed,” Stone has said they may “at our sole discretion” decide to revive Hardcore players in future if they deem it “inconsistent with the integrity of the game.”

Community Reactions and Controversy

It’s a bold move by Blizzard to restore deaths in Hardcore, as the company has always kept a firm stance that deaths are permanent regardless of circumstance. While some players understand the decision, a few are speaking up on what they call “streamer privilege.”

One user on the WoW Classic forums declared: “Well, there goes the rules for HC smh death is permanent unless you are a streamer,” while another stated it’s “an incredibly dumb and privileged decision.” Others, however, declare it a “great decision.”

What This Could Mean for Future Hardcore Events

Blizzard maintains they will not revive characters that die due to “server disconnects, lag spikes, gameplay bugs, or any other reasons.”

However, no matter how you look at it, the company has made an exception for OnlyFangs, which could mean adjustments in its policy in the future.

Conclusion

Blizzard revives deaths sustained by OnlyFangs members on World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore after DDoS attacks. Do you think it’s a fair move by Blizzard? Do you think it’s a case of streamer privilege? Share your thoughts in the comments.
