Black Ops 6: Activision Admits PC Players Likely Cheat, Adds Further Crossplay Options

Activision has admitted that a majority of cheaters on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are PC players, as the company updates its Ricochet anti-cheat tool and adds more cross-play options. Black Ops 6 released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 25, 2024.

Black Ops 6: Activision Admits PC Players Likely Cheat, Adds Further Crossplay Options

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 3 launches April 2, adding new maps, weapons, rewards, and fresh content to Activision’s FPS, but it also features new cross-play settings for console players to avoid PC cheaters.

In the latest patch notes for Season 3, Activision reveals their Ricochet system has banned over 228,000 players since the game’s launch, with 23% of cheaters removed before they even play their first match.

Activision Responds to Cheating Concerns

Cheating is an ongoing problem in competitive gaming, and Activision wants to ensure a great player experience by giving them more tools when playing online. In a bid to limit cheating, Black Ops 6 console players will now have additional crossplay settings that allow them to avoid cheaters playing on PC.

Activision has shared some statistics revealing that over 60% of cheating reports involve console players. However, their data indicates that actual console cheaters are rare, with a substantial portion of detected cheaters coming from the PC platform.

Crossplay Options Get an Update

To combat cheating and improve the experience of legitimate players, Activision has updated its crossplay options. While players could previously turn off crossplay in various ranked modes, they can now do so across all modes.

The crossplay options now come in the following:

  • On: Enables matchmaking with all gaming platforms when playing in the selected playlists.
  • On (Consoles Only): Enables matchmaking only with other consoles when playing in selected playlists.
    • May negatively impact matchmaking queue times.
  • Off: Restricts matchmaking to your current gaming platform only in selected playlists.
    • Will negatively impact matchmaking queue times.

The Ongoing Fight Against Cheaters

Activision has taken strong action against cheaters, banning nearly 300,000 players since the release of Black Ops 6 in October 2024. Cheaters have a detrimental effect on the game’s reputation and overall experience, which Activision is addressing seriously. Since the game’s launch, the company has reported shutting down over 20 cheat developers and numerous resellers.

Nobody wants to play with a cheater, and while these new options help PlayStation and Xbox players combat the issue, legitimate PC players are left with longer queue times and are likely to face cheaters more than ever.

Conclusion

Activision is fighting back against cheaters in Black Ops 6 with Season 3, with additional crossplay options intended to let players decide the platforms they play against. What do you think of the new options? Let us know in the comments.
