Battlefield 5 Active Player Count Surpasses Battlefield 2042

Christmas is a time for love, giving, and forgiveness, but Battlefield 2042 didn’t receive much love over the holiday period as its active player count on steam dropped below Battlefield 5’s.

LOW BATTLEFIELD 2042 PLAYER COUNT

Battlefield 2042 had a great marketing campaign and a lot of hype for its release in November 2021, but since then, errors, bugs, and crashes see it sitting on Steam with a “Mostly Negative” review score.

That negative feeling towards the game saw the active player count drop below Battlefield 5’s, which came out in 2018.

It’s not a good sign for Battlefield 2042 when you think a new game’s best period is typically in the first few weeks of its release.

The numbers for Battlefield 5 do fluctuate through the time of day, and at a couple of points, the active player count has even surpassed Halo Infinite’s, with that game only releasing early December.

24-hour Active Player Peak:

• Halo Infinite: 61,316
• Battlefield 2042: 17,426
• Battlefield 5: 21,551

Of course, the Steam numbers do not tell the whole story, as Battlefield 2042 is cross-platform and is available on Origin, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X and Series S, PS4, and PS5.

But, there is no getting away from the fact that EA and DICE have failed once again to please the FPS community, and they will have to work hard to turn things around, seeing as Battlefield 2042 is a live-service game.
