Sony Distributing Playstation Credit To Selected Users

Well, it’s not a giveaway, rather a compensation. Sony hasn’t issued a press release about it nor the system error back in December but players who received the free credit were sent an email or a PlayStation notification explaining the situation. According to a Playstation Lifestyle report, this credit is compensation for a redemption error that some users experienced in December 2024. The message states that the credit was an apology for a system issue that temporarily prevented users from redeeming voucher codes on the PlayStation Store.

Some users have reported receiving $10 in free credit while others have received $5 or €5. Since Sony hasn’t released a public statement, it’s unclear how the amounts were determined. The notice further stated that the original voucher codes that couldn’t be redeemed in December can now be successfully redeemed. This means affected players are not only getting what they originally purchased but also a little extra as a gesture of goodwill.

This isn’t the first time Sony has compensated players for technical issues. Recently, PlayStation Network experienced a major outage, affecting thousands of users. In response, Sony gave PlayStation Plus subscribers an extra five days of membership for free to make up for the downtime.
