Age of Empires Definitive Edition New Release Date Announced
Microsoft has finally announced a new release date for the remastered version of their real-time strategy classic, Age of Empires Definitive Edition. The game will be launching on 20 February for $20.
The game was supposed to be released on 19 October last year, exactly 20 years after the original’s release in 1997. The game was delayed at the last minute with Microsoft only saying they needed the extra time to “treat the Age of Empires franchise with the respect it deserves.”
In case you missed the game’s trailer, you can check it out below:
The Definitive edition will sport a new UI, a new orchestral score, completely re-done assets, local (LAN) and online multiplayer, voiced narrations for every campaign mission, and a whole lot more. A few of the really welcome improvements are the ability to attack-move and designate control groups, and the addition of an idle villagers button.
Microsoft will also be holding a closed multiplayer beta before the game’s launch. You can go to the game’s site to sign up for the beta up until 25 January. The beta itself goes live on 29 January.
Age of Empires 2 and 3 also have Definitive Edition re-releases in the works, while a full sequel, Age of Empires 4, has also been announced.
Love this franchise. The only drawback is that this Definitive Edition is going to be only available on the windows store. Hope it comes to Steam too.
