The recent rebranding of 4A Games Ukraine to Reburn has left many fans scratching their heads wondering if this means the end of 4A Games altogether. With the Metro series being such a beloved franchise, the sudden name change sparked confusion. Is 4A Games gone? Who exactly is Reburn, and what does this mean for the future of Metro? 4A Games Clarifies Rebranding and New Reburn Studio
For years, 4A Games has been the driving force behind the Metro series, creating some of the most immersive and atmospheric shooters out there. So when news broke that 4A Games Ukraine had rebranded as Reburn, confusion naturally followed. Was this the end of 4A Games? What did it mean for Metro?
To clear things up, 4A Games didn’t disappear. You can call it an evolution. Back in 2014 in the midst of the political unrest in Ukraine, part of the team relocated to Malta while the rest remained in Kyiv. This led to the formation of two branches: 4A Games Ukraine and 4A Games Malta. Despite the split, both studios continued working closely together on the Metro series, keeping the franchise alive and thriving.
Then in 2020, Embracer Group acquired the Malta-based 4A Games, along with the rights to Metro. Meanwhile, the Kyiv team remained independent but kept developing games under the same name.
But to avoid confusion and establish a new identity, 4A Games Ukraine rebranded as Reburn in 2025, marking a fresh start for their own creative direction. And to this, 4A Games Malta has issued a clarification and has congratulated the former Ukraine branch in the new endeavor.

So fans of Metro can relax again, it’s not going anywhere. It is still in safe hands with 4A Games Malta. Reburn is branching out with new projects including their upcoming sci-fi shooter La Quimera which will be running on the 4A engine still.
