Some might have heard or done it the past few years but to refresh your minds or introduce to new Xbox converts, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate conversion trick is still applicable today!
This savings hack, in simple terms, is basically converting up to three years of your standard Game Pass subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the price of the latter’s one month price.
When the trick was cracked, Microsoft offered a 1:1 conversion rate. Meaning, when you upgrade, for example 3 years of Game Pass Core, you’ll get 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate.
Let’s repeat that, 3 years of purchased Xbox Game Pass Core (or a combination of Core and Console/PC Game Pass) can be converted to 3 years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate just by buying a one-month subscription to Ultimate.
Although this upgrade deal is still valid as of writing, the ratio has changed since the Xbox price increase. So instead of 1:1, it is now 3:2.
So to go back to our previous example, when you convert the maximum allowable time which is 3 years of Xbox Game Pass Core, you get 2 years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
If you, however, do not have enough to buy 3 sets of 12-month subscriptions, below is a guide for easy conversion of shorter periods:
Now, let us translate that to pricing to get a better perspective of your savings.
You will get the best deal possible when you purchase a 12-month subscription of Xbox Game Pass Core so let’s take this as our base.
Since the maximum allowable duration to redeem any code is 36 months, you can buy three 12-month subscriptions of the Core plan. If you still have remaining months on an existing plan, then just buy the “lacking” months to maximize the “discounted” months.
So, 3 sets of 1-year Core subscription will total you $180 (€162 / £150) which is $60/year (€54 / £50) as opposed to buying it monthly at $9.99/month (€7 / £8). Then when you buy an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 1-month subscription in order to activate the upgrade, you will total $196.99 (€177/ £163).
As mentioned earlier, the conversion ratio is now 3:2 and NOT 1:1. So with the 3 years of Core, you get 2 years of Ultimate.
Now back to the price. With your total cost of $196.99 (€177/ £163), you get 2 years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This brings your monthly down to $8.2 (€7.4 / £6.8) as opposed to Ultimate’s going rate now of $16.99 (€14.99/ £12.99) which gives you 52% (roughly the same with € / £) with savings every month.
That’s even cheaper than the Core plan when you buy monthly!
Also, if you are already an Ultimate subscriber, it’s best to run your existing subscription out first as the conversion ratio is different. This way, you get the most amount of savings.
There are a few things to take note of to get this much savings.
First, remember that in order to redeem any code, you must have a maximum of 36 months on your subscription. So if you have remaining months on an existing plan and you decide to buy 3 sets of 12-month subscriptions, you won’t be able to redeem your last code.
The exception to this is the month of Ultimate you will use to convert. So, your 3 years of Core redeemed plus one-month Ultimate to convert is fine. If however you do not have 36 months already, say 33 months only, the one month of Ultimate to convert will add onto the 33 months. This part, yes, is a bit confusing.
Second, short term or multi-day trial codes like three days or 2-week trials will not work with this conversion trick.
Third, if you get 3 12-month subscription and you accept any bonus months for agreeing to the recurring billing, then you go over the maximum 36 months and won’t be able to redeem your last code.
If you have a combination of Core and Console Game Pass, always increase the Core time because: one, it’s cheaper; and second, Core converts at the 3:2 ratio while the latter is at 4:3.
If you have a combination of Core and PC Game Pass, no worries because it will just combine as one to convert at a 3:2 ratio.
With just the conversion trick, you’re already bagging a very good deal.
But wait, there’s more!
To top up this already massive savings, you can buy Xbox Game Pass Core cheaper than the official listed price. With the help of Allkeyshop, you can find the lowest price to buy a 12-month Xbox Game Pass Core subscription!
Whether you’re after the global key or a specific location key, we’ve got that covered too.
As of writing, the cheapest global key for a 12-month Core subscription is $38.46 from VidaPlayer. So if you calculate with this base for the conversion trick, you’re scoring $5.4/month for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription or a whopping 68% savings every month for 2 years!
Apart of course for free subscription with your Microsoft Rewards, you couldn’t get a better deal than this!
