Widespread Disappointment Across Game Pass Members After Wave 1 Update
Xbox Game Pass wave 1 list was revealed and it did not get the reception it normally does. In fact, it was the opposite.
Xbox Game Pass is the biggest gaming subscription there is, and arguably the best. Its frequent day-one launches, multiple tiers that cater to a wide range of budget, longevity of games within the catalog, and accessibility across different platforms have made them a top choice for gamers. And so, the monthly addition of games are always awaited by a massive amount of people.
Apart from months with big Xbox events and the recently concluded holiday festivities, it’s the January catalog announcement that most subscribers were excited for. Unfortunately, the reveal missed the spot. By a lot.
Xbox Game Pass 2025 Review
The official Xbox Game Pass January lineup for wave 1 didn’t get released until a week in and after the first two games were added (Carrion and Road 96). Considering that December didn’t have a wave 2 drop, all subscribers were eagerly waiting for it.
When it did though, it had only 6 titles, 4 of which were for the Standard tier. Meaning, they’re already part of the catalog for the other tiers. The other two? One is a PC game, which although it’s the first Diablo game, let’s face it, it’s 30 years old. And the other is UFC 5 which is via EA Play, and only for consoles.
This was definitely not the start of the month subscribers, especially Ultimate members, were expecting. Gaming subscriptions aren’t that cheap especially the highest tier and with this selection, the fee doesn’t seem worth it.
This sentiment is shared by most of the subscribers and they did not hold back airing out their disappointment.
Some argue that wave 2 already has 3 day-one launches (agreed) and so in the end it’s fine. But do we really want to settle because the second half has 3 launches? December didn’t have a second drop so maybe January, as a whole, can make up for it.
We’re still in the first week of the month and so there is still hope that surprise additions will start falling off the sky. And for Ultimate members, the new perks are live so there are free DLCs you can claim.
If this makes it better, the Playstation January lineup didn’t go so well too.
