A New Visions of Mana Game Is Coming to Xbox

It’s true. The first mainline Visions of Mana game in over 15 years is coming, and for the first time in the series, it’s coming to Xbox.

What Is Visions of Mana?

Visions of Mana is a single-player action RPG from legendary developer Square Enix, the studio behind Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest Monsters, and Star Ocean. And just like those, Square Enix has inserted their trademark of vibrant colors, diverse characters, and expressive combat in the new Mana game.

Shown off at the Xbox Developer_Direct showcase, Square Enix treated us to a preview of what we can expect with Vision of Mana’s environments, combat, and traversal mechanics – which includes aerial combat, a first for the Mana series.

And Mana series producer Masaru Oyamada is proud of what the team has achieved, saying during the Developer_Direct event “there’s very much a distinctive Mana style that is easily recognizable to everyone. You can see it in the Tree of Mana illustrations by the great Hiroo Isono, in Mr. Ishii’s unforgettable monsters, and in the characters that inhabit these worlds.”

How does Visions of Mana compare to other Mana titles?

For anyone new to the Mana series, Visions of Mana will be a charming introduction to the series. It’s set to capture what makes the franchise so popular with its colorful characters, intertwining and engrossing stories, and unforgettable enemies.

You don’t have to have played previous Mana games, as each one acts as a standalone title with their connections being the gameplay and monsters rather than the storylines.

The Mana series goes as far back as 1991, but surprisingly, Oyamada wasn’t sure if fans or gamers would take kindly to a new game, so they decided to test the waters, with Oyamada saying, “we decided to release various remakes and remasters to both renew interest among past fans of the series and give newcomers a chance to experience the series.”

The success of Trials of Mana in 2020 inspired the team to make Visions of Mana, and taking everything they have learned over the past three decades, Oyamada thinks they have done just that. “Visions of Mana takes the core elements that made the Mana series, such as the warm and inviting world, monsters and epic tales of new encounters and emotional farewells and pushes them to a new level.

Visions of Mana release date for Xbox

Visions of Mana is set for a release in the Summer of 2024, sometime between July and September. In a first for the series, it will release on PlayStation 5, PC, and you will be able to play Visions of Mana on Xbox – which will no doubt please JRPG fans and introduce the series to a whole new generation of players.
