Dragon’s Dogma 2 – new Casual Mode and Trial on console

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was renewed with a new update on 17 September 2024, aimed at fixing and balancing the game. Featuring some interesting new additions such as Casual Mode and the return of the Trial for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Discover the new Casual Mode for New and Returning Players

Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom’s action RPG Fantasy, continues to evolve with a new update on 17th September 2024. About 3 months after the last major update, the new one brings numerous fixes and changes to the game, including the standout feature: “Casual Mode”.

One of the criticisms from many new players is related to the very restrictive rules of Dragon’s Dogma 2, making it difficult to engage with the game for those with no previous experience with the series. Casual Mode/Easy introduces a series of changes aimed at providing a more casual and less restrictive game experience:

  • Inn fees are now reduced
  • Ferrystones prices reduced
  • Carried Weight will rarely become “Heavy” or “Very Heavy”
  • Reduced Stamina consumption while running outside of combat
  • The loss Gauge won’t increase when selecting “Load Last Save” upon the death of your Arisen
  • Pawns will recover from Dragonsplague without triggering a “Devastating Calamity”, even after reaching the terminal stage

Certainly a welcome addition to Dragon’s Dogma 2, but there is additional content like extensive class rebalancing, new animations, graphical and gameplay fixes, which you can read about in the detailed announcement on the Official Dragon’s Dogma 2 website.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Trial available again – Dates and Platforms

Along with the new update, there are more surprises. Capcom has decided to reintroduce the popular timed game demo (2 hours). The new Trial will be available only on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with the following dates:

  • PS5: 17th September 2024, 23:00~9th October 2024, 22:59 (UTC)
  • Xbox Series X|S: 18th September 2024, 0:00~1st October 2024, 9:59 (UTC)

To access the Trial Version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, simply go to the game page on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on Xbox and select the Trial Version, which will last 2 hours. To optimize your game time, we recommend downloading the “Dragon’s Dogma 2 Character Creator & Storage”, which allows you to create a character beforehand, saving time during the Trial Version.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 – A slow climb to success

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the sequel to the beloved Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, over 12 years after the release of the base version of the first game. A fantasy RPG and open-world game that many eagerly awaited, but unfortunately did not satisfy everyone at launch. The game offered few changes compared to the first, with numerous performance and bug issues, and the questionable choice to include microtransactions.

Nonetheless, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was a major success for Capcom, selling over 2.5 million copies in less than 2 weeks and peaking at over 220,000 concurrent players on PC alone. The initial success of DD2 allowed Capcom to fully satisfy its investors, having already surpassed 3 million copies sold.

As for general player feedback, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a good sequel, but initially suffered from a lack of overall polish. Less bothersome for series fans, but certainly more noticeable to new players, who should see improvements with the new Casual Mode and further updates aimed at refining the game experience. Rumor has it, a future expansion is also on the way.
