What is The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna?
The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is a walking simulator where you play as a university student who has just graduated, and decided to head back to his hometown for some “soul-searching.”
He was away for quite some time, and he’s surprised that the place where he spent his youth has now been abandoned. Shortly after his arrival, he begins to experience visions of some kind of incident that happened there years ago.
The visions he’s experiencing take place in different places and times, and to get answers, he must “search for clues and unravel the surrounding mystery.”
The game will have you exploring the map with no loading screens. There are also some puzzles to complete in order for you to progress, with most of them having you interacting with objects.
Console Release
The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna has branched over to consoles as of February 2, 2022, after being launched as a PC game in February 2019. The game is available for players on Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
Seeking the Mood
The game has been receiving mixed reviews from players who have previously played games created by Tonguç Bodur.
On Steam, the game has Mostly Positive reviews from players, with some praising it for its beautiful scenery and story-telling. The dialogue and voice acting are where players are divided, with some saying it’s weak, while others didn’t mind it and just went for the experience.
The developer did include a note on the game’s description on Steam saying, “The core aspect of this game is the atmosphere. It is recommended for those who mostly seek to experience the mood.” So, if you’re up for some virtual exploration in an atmospheric world, this may be the game for you.
