Tales of the Shire: The Lord of the Rings Game is a life sim game in development by Wētā Workshop and published by Private Division. A game that, as the title suggests, will take us to the Shire from the famous Lord of the Rings series by Tolkien. A life sim where we can play as a Hobbit from Bywater.
With an idyllic life where we can take care of our garden, our hobbit hole, socialize with other residents, and much more. All set in a colorful and peaceful atmosphere, far from the dangers of Middle-earth. The game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Tales of the Shire – The Postponement News
After the initial delay of the game from 2024 to 2025, the team at Wētā Workshop had announced the launch of Tales of the Shire for March 29, 2025. Unfortunately, with a detailed announcement on February 20, 2025, the team communicated another delay.
They’ve moved the release date to Summer 2025, specifically July 29. A game that initially captured attention for its unique concept is now, unfortunately, losing interest from many due to the continuous delays and the lack of content shown so far.

Tales of the Shire: The Reasons for the Delay
Tales of the Shire is Wētā Workshop’s first video game project. A New Zealand-based company primarily focused on scenic effects and props, both physical and digital. They were involved in films like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit. And Rings of Power, as well as numerous cult films and series.
The delay decision was made by the team to ensure they deliver the best experience possible across all platforms. It’s likely due to technical limitations of the Nintendo Switch. Since the game won’t be available on PS4 and Xbox One, only on current-gen consoles.
In Conclusion
Tales of the Shire is turning out to be quite an ambitious project for the Wētā Workshop team. With the second delay for a game with significant potential and fan interest in Tolkien’s works.
