With an announcement on October 10, Sunderfolk introduces itself as an RPG game from one of Blizzard’s co-creators. Offering a board game-style experience with some novelties.

On 10 October 2024, the Secret Door team announced Sunderfolk. A turn-based strategy RPG offering a campaign inspired by classic board games. A title that will arrive in 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Notable names behind the team include Blizzard’s former president and co-founder, Michael Morhaime. A tight-knit team and passionate about board games, aiming to offer a classic RPG experience like Dungeons & Dragons, playable in co-op with friends.

Sunderfolk – An Innovative RPG Experience from Ex-Blizzard Members

Sunderfolk particularly stands out as a game that brings classic friend gatherings to life, in the style of D&D or even Jackbox Games. Players can choose one of the 6 animal heroes and class archetypes, playing with up to 3 friends locally or in co-op with a single copy of the game, thanks to the dedicated app.

With the app acts as a controller in Sunderfolk, allowing players to control their characters, visiting towns on their own to prepare for the next missions. Although optional, the app adds depth to the experience.

Secret Door and Dreamhaven – Meet the Team Behind Sunderfolk

After leaving Blizzard in 2019, Michael Morhaime founded Dreamhaven the following year. And creating two studios: Moonshot Games and Secret Door. Numerous former Blizzard members, including Chris Sigaty, lead producer of Starcraft II. And Ben Thompson, Art Director of Hearthstone who joined the team.

Sunderfolk undoubtedly benefits from a talented team, offering a classic RPG experience that may appeal to a certain type of gamer.
