On October 17th, 2024, during the Xbox Partner Showcase, Subnautica 2 was revealed. The new chapter of the aquatic-themed survival series is coming in 2025.

Subnautica 2 Revealed: The Teaser for the Upcoming Open Water Survival and Release Date

To much surprise, Subnautica 2 was finally announced, the third chapter of the series. A chapter in the beloved “open-water” game series that plunges us into an open-world marine universe. The team revealed it with a teaser during the Xbox Partner Showcase on October 17th, 2024.

The brief teaser already shows some of what we can expect from Subnautica 2. From visual enhancements to the return of survival features, marine dangers, and new additions. Announcing its release on Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2025 as an Early Access game, it was also confirmed for Game Pass.

Subnautica 2: What We Know and What to Expect from the New Chapter

Subnautica 2 was confirmed in development in April 2022, after Unknown Worlds Entertainment was acquired by Krafton in 2021. In 2023, it was also confirmed that Subnautica 2 will introduce a co-op mode for up to 4 players. Of course, it will include a mix of crafting, survival, and horror elements thanks to the dangers of the deep sea. We still don’t know if it will take place on a new planet or if we’ll return to 4546B.

The new chapter will run on Unreal Engine 5, no longer using Unity. Offering an even more immersive visual experience. Though the new system requirements will be more demanding, especially for the CPU. Many are eager to learn more about Subnautica 2, with further news likely to arrive towards the end of 2024, giving interested players time to replay or catch up on the previous chapters.
