Subnautica 2 Announced: All Info on Release, Co-op Mode, and New Features
After several years of waiting and lots of speculation from fans, Unknown Worlds Entertainment has finally officially announced the Early Access release of Subnautica 2. About six months ago, we got our first teaser trailer for the game. This game aims to take the popular underwater survival genre to the next level. It introduces many new features, including co-op. Subnautica 2 – What to expect in the new survival adventure
In Subnautica 2, you’ll explore a completely new alien ocean planet. It features a wide variety of biomes and things to discover. You’ll encounter underwater cliffs, coral fields, and much more. The planet is full of vibrant and breathtaking biomes. Unique creatures inhabit every corner. But this world is out of balance, and something about it just feels off.
Of course, the game has a new story—you’re a pioneer on a journey to a distant world. But something isn’t right, even though the ship’s AI insists that you continue the mission. Still, the world is probably too dangerous for humans to live in…
To survive in this world, you’ll need to choose the right tools. Alongside familiar items like the scanner and flashlight, you’ll also find blueprints for more advanced tools, gear, and diving equipment. Naturally, you’ll also have to build a base again to survive. The building system has been reworked and now allows for greater customization.
The game is being developed in the Unreal Engine 5, which brings a significant improvement in graphics and performance. This modern engine enables detailed environments, realistic lighting, and an overall immersive gameplay experience.
Early Access 2025 – When is Subnautica 2 coming out?
Subnautica 2 is set to release in Early Access in 2025. That means the game won’t be fully complete at launch and will receive many updates over time. There will still be some bugs, of course, but with help from the community, everything will continue to improve. The game is planned for release on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately, there’s no price or exact release date yet.
Co-op mode with up to 4 players – What’s new?
The best part is that you won’t have to explore the world of Subnautica 2 alone. Unlike its two predecessors, the game includes a built-in co-op mode. You can team up with up to 4 players to explore the secrets of the world, build your own base, and dive even deeper into the game. But even with a team, things won’t necessarily be easier—this planet is full of challenges and dangers, so teamwork is key.
Dev Vlog – First look at Subnautica 2
On April 23, 2025, we got a developer vlog from Anthony Gallegos, the design lead of Subnautica 2. You can watch the dev vlog right below. It gives us short glimpses of gameplay and even some new enemies. The team is made up of both veteran developers and some new faces, and this is set to be the studio’s most ambitious game yet. After the game’s Early Access launch, we can expect more vehicles, biomes, and leviathans to be added. Gallegos also expressed his desire to work closely with the community and is already encouraging players to share their feature ideas on their Discord or social media channels.
