STEAM UPDATE: IN-GAME OVERLAY AND FRESH NEW LOOK
Valve has released a massive and shiny new update for Steam, which delivers tons of quality-of-life improvements and adds lots of new features.
The new Steam update comes on a brand-new framework, which gives the client a new look and is designed to help Valve add features more easily to the desktop, mobile, Big Picture, and Steam Deck apps.
There are visual and usability updates to menus, fonts, colors, and dialogs thanks to a refreshed UI that makes everything clearer and easier to use.
Steam notifications have had an overhaul with customization options that allow you to select the updates you receive, including discounts on wishlisted games.
The biggest update comes with the in-game overlay, which has been redesigned with an all-new user interface that focuses on utility and customizability, with a new toolbar and updated friends chat, achievement progress, and browser.
The overlay update includes the new Notes feature that allows you to write down any notes while you’re playing the game, letting you paste images and track important information as you play.
You can also pin windows that will show on top of the game from the overlay, allowing you to adjust the opacity of the windows and keep track of your tasks more efficiently.
Other updates include hardware acceleration for Mac and Linux, an updated controller configurator, and a Game Overview panel for keeping up-to-date with all the relevant information for the game you’re playing.
