Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive has responded to player feedback and announced the decision to ban mods in public lobbies. Game Director Dmitriy Grigorenko spoke to fans via a blog post, revealing mods will be prohibited from public online sessions starting December. Players may still use mods in private sessions.

Space Marine 2 has been a massive hit since it was released in September, but as the use of mods within the player base increases, developer Saber Interactive has been forced to react to growing concerns. Speaking to fans in a post on Steam, Game Director Dmitriy Grigorenko revealed plans to prohibit mods when the next big update comes in December.

Since Space Marine 2’s release, players have used mods to improve their in-game experience. Currently, mods are allowed, but Grigorenko has expressed Saber’s plans to “ensure game stability” and a smoother experience for all players. However, it’s not all bad news, as Space Marine 2 mods will be usable in private lobbies. Saber plans to improve mod support down the line.

Why Mods Are Banned in Space Marine 2

Saber Interactive is taking action to protect Space Marine 2 players as recent server instability has been related to mods. Grigorenko says the developer has also “received user reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods.”

Players with mods installed will be prevented from joining public online lobbies when the next patch comes in December. Those wishing to use mods can still do so in private Operations lobbies and the upcoming Eternal War mode. Mods, while popular, often introduce elements that disrupt the intended experience for all players in public settings.

What This Means for Space Marine 2 Multiplayer

Mods, while popular, often introduce elements that disrupt the intended experience for all players in public settings. By keeping mods to private lobbies, Saber ensures a consistent experience for all players while not deterring modding enthusiasts.

Grigorenko recognizes the potential mods have for Space Marine 2 online multiplayer, which is why the developer is against a complete ban. Instead, Saber promises an “easy entry point” into their backend for modders in the future. Hopefully, keeping mods to private online sessions will make everyone happy without compromising game stability.
