Sonic fans are celebrating today as Sonic Wings / Aero Fighters returns with Sonic Wings Reunion, the first in the series for 26 years. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS, and PC via Steam on May 29, 2025.
Sonic Wings Reunion launches next year, being the first in the series for 26 years. The announcement video revealed eight playable characters, including Mao Mao and Hien, with eight stages to clear, each of which is based on real-world cities.
A long-time coming, Sonic Wings Reunion comes from Success Corporation, who will be the developer and publisher. Reunion will release for Switch, PS5, and PC on May 29, 2025, and it’s getting a physical and limited edition.
Sonic Wings, also known as Aero Fighters, launched in arcades in 1992 and later ported to SNES in 1993. The vertical-scrolling shooter gained enough popularity and a large enough cult following that sequels followed, including Sonic Wings Special for the original PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Sonic Wings Reunion will be the first in nearly three decades, and the original developers and composer are back. Releasing on modern consoles and hardware, developer Success Corporation promises fast, intense action and a two-player game mode.
Sonic Wings Reunion throws players into a global battle as Project Blue, a secret organization of knights. In a desperate bid to stop the mysterious Fata Morgana group, players will rise against their enemies to prevent the world falling into chaos.
Excited fans can pre-order Sonic Wings Reunion from Nintendo, PlayStation, Steam, or the official website. The game releases on May 26, 2025, and those who want it can pick up the limited edition, also available on the game’s main website.
