Ron Gilbert announces the long-awaited sequel to Secret of Monkey Island, with Gilbert working on the series for the first time in decades.

Ron Gilbert announced in a blog post and later confirmed in a tweet that a new Monkey Island game is coming in 2022.
Return to Monkey Island sees Gilbert return to the series he created for the first time since 1991, and the short announcement trailer shows Gilbert’s signature 2D art style and humor.
In his tweet, Gilbert revealed Return to Monkey Island has been in the works in secret for the last two years.
Return to Monkey Island is developed alongside Devolver Digital and the Disney-owned Lucasfilm Games.
There is no release date yet for Return to Monkey Island, but Gilbert says that it will launch later in 2022.
