Does Atari Own RollerCoaster Tycoon 3?
Atari has bought the publishing rights for RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 from Frontier Developments. The $7 million deal means Atari is now the sole publisher for every game in the series, including RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, Rollercoaster Tycoon Joyride, and Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch.
The news comes days after the series and its creator, Chris Sawyer, celebrated the franchise’s 25th anniversary with exclusive in-game content and other extras.
Announcing the deal in a blog on their official website, Atari said having the entire RollerCoaster Tycoon series under their publishing means they can now “seek to develop new titles, expand digital and physical distribution, and explore brand and merchandising collaborations as part of a long-term plan to bring the franchise to new heights.”
In summary, nothing will change in the short term for fans of the series, but in the long term, it appears that we’ll be getting a lot more RollerCoaster Tycoon content on PC and consoles.
