DELAYED GAMES NOW RELEASING IN 2021
Some of the most anticipated games last year saw delays, but with 2021 more than halfway through, we can now look forward to those games releasing.
Halo Infinite
Originally set for release in late 2020, Microsoft and 343 Industries chose to delay the game’s release for a year, citing the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic as one of the reasons.
COVID-19 was not the only reason, however, as the game’s first trailer received a lot of criticism from fans of the Halo series due to its look.
Now, set for a holiday 2021 release, Halo Infinite looks like it will be the return of Master Chief that fans have always wanted.
New World
New World is Amazon’s upcoming MMO and was due to launch in August 2020, but a couple of weeks before release, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Now, the game is set for release on August 31, 2021, and has recently had a very successful closed beta which saw it become one of the top 5 played games on Steam and the second most-viewed game on Twitch.
Humankind
Humankind has seen a few delays. Originally it was supposed to launch in 2020 but was pushed back to early 2021, and then again delayed once more and is now set to release August 17, 2021.
The delay in 2020 was due mainly to the coronavirus pandemic, and the delay in early 2021 was because the developers, Amplitude, thought that the game would benefit from some more polishing.
It seems the team has worked on accessibility, diplomacy, and AI and is finally ready to release the game.
Deathloop
Deathloop is another game that has suffered from COVID-related delays, with the game’s original holiday 2020 release date pushed back to May 2021.
Developers Arkane then pushed the game back once more, again because of COVID-19 difficulties as they wanted to ensure the health and safety of their team.
It seems that now the game is ready for its launch and is expected to release September 14, 2021.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction has seen several delays since its initial February 2020 release date.
Ubisoft’s co-op shooter will now launch on September 16, 2021.
Far Cry 6
Initially, Far Cry 6 was due to launch in February 2021, but the game was delayed by eight months because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ubisoft has now stated that the game will release October 7, 2021, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia.
Dying Light 2
Techland’s upcoming open-world zombie game was first set to launch in the spring of 2020, but just as with other games in this article, COVID-19 caused the game to delay until 2021.
Fortunately for fans of the series, the game is now available to pre-order ahead of its new release date of December 7, 2021.
