Path of Exile 2 is the highly anticipated sequel by Grinding Gear Games. An F2P Action RPG in a Diablo-like style set for release on 6 December 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Path of Exile 2 presents a Standalone experience, with renewed gameplay and a different class system compared to the first. Many players had the chance to test it during various Betas, with Early Access scheduled for 6 December 2024.

The team at Grinding Gear Games (GGG) is bringing changes, new updates, and more, shaping the experience of Path of Exile 2 based on player feedback. The title is positioned as an alternative, not a replacement, to the original.

 

Path of Exile 2 Release Date

The release date for Path of Exile 2 was initially set for 15 November 2024, with Early Access for GGG’s Action RPG. The team announced this at Gamescom 2024, with a simultaneous release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S alongside the PC version. However, Game Director Jonathan Rogers recently announced a delay by a few weeks.

Just two weeks before the Early Access launch, the team decided to postpone PoE 2 by 3 weeks, setting the new release date to 6 December 2024. The main reasons being the need to improve the integration system, of shared account content between Path of Exile 1 and 2.

PoE 2 offers an expanded and improved formula compared to the first game. Among the new features are the dodge roll without cooldown, plus weapon swapping and skill assignments. Explore the new gameplay mechanics in Path of Exile 2.

With a renewed Skill system that includes Uncut Gems, players can experiment with various Active, Support, or Buff Skills. Players can tailor their playstyle, with loot and gear choices also gaining importance.

Classes and Leagues in Path of Exile 2

Upon launch, Path of Exile 2 will feature 12 game classes based on Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence combinations, including 6 new classes like Monk, Druid, Sorceress, Mercenary, Huntress, and Warrior. The League system will include Standard (permanent) and a seasonal Challenge Leagues lasting 13 weeks. In Challenge Leagues, players start from Lv.1 without loot, with added options for new gameplay styles.

What to Expect from Microtransactions in Path of Exile 2

Grinding Gear Games has opted for a Free to Play model for Path of Exile 2. Like the first game, PoE 2 includes cosmetic items and character slots to support the F2P model. And confirmation of no Pay To Win elements, much to the fans relief.

Moreover the team confirmed that microtransactions from Path of Exile will be integrated into Path of Exile 2.Allowing long time fans to be able to carry over their purchases. Although this integration is also the main cause for the Early Access delay to 6 December 2024. Details on how to access Early Access will be revealed soon.
