Once Human: A New Multiplayer Survival and Open World Title developed by Starry Night, a development team working for NetEase Games, a prominent IT industry giant in China that manages various mobile and PC games.
The release date is yet to be determined, tentatively set for Q4 2024 (at the end of the year). However, the developer is offering a Closed Beta with approximately 3000 selected players every week.
Once Human is indeed an Open World Survival game with PvPvE elements. Players will assume the roles of Meta-Humans in a post-apocalyptic world that has been devastated by Stardust, the planet and every existing form of life by Stardust. The alien entity Stardust has granted powers to the mutated life forms, including the Meta-Humans. They have the objective of defending the last remaining humans on the planet.
The title’s goal is to explore the vast gaming world, encounter other players, craft weapons and equipment, establish game bases, explore areas that will advance the story and the lore of the game world. Additionally, surviving is emphasized through what the game promises to be a robust Survival system. This involves not only monitoring classic hunger and thirst parameters but also considering that foods will be contaminated based on soil conditions, negatively affecting our character.
The beta period was already available from December 6th, but due to considerable interest from users, the developer has decided to extend the period, gradually limiting access to 3000 selected users every Friday until a yet-to-be-determined date. Currently, access to the Closed Beta is guaranteed only for PC and exclusively through the developer’s client (no Steam).
Accessing the beta is straightforward. Simply visit the official Once Human website and click on “Sign Up for Beta.”
You’ll be directed to a simple questionnaire that requires accepting the Privacy Policy and then entering your email and Discord account name. Once completed, you’ll be invited to join the Once Human Discord channel to follow news and any communications.
The system requirements are straightforward, although for Beta access, a more recent Intel processor is recommended compared to the Steam-recommended specs. It’s also recommended to install the title on an SSD for a better experience (as noted in the latest FAQ).
Once Human appears to be a title well-equipped to offer a survival game for cooperative and competitive play. With both PvE and PvP modes, players can explore the game world together, survive, gather resources, and craft necessities. The release date may be distant, but in the meantime, players can enjoy titles with similar gaming systems or worlds. The explorative, combat, and boss elements resemble games like Remnant II, while crafting and open-world components are reminiscent of titles like Fallout 76 and many more!
