NieR: Automata is an action RPG created by the PlatinumGames team and released in 2017. As the sequel to 2010’s Nier, it takes us over a millennium beyond the original story. Following the tale of various androids, including 2B, on their mission to eradicate the machines that have taken over Earth.

Featuring action gameplay as spectacular as its intriguing story. Complemented by a unique cast and captivating design. The game initially saw great success with many players, establishing the entry—and especially 2B—as a true gaming icon.

NieR: Automata has been a strong success since its 2017 launch. Selling an impressive 1.5 million copies in its first few months and reaching 4 million copies in 2019. Even now, 7 years after its release, PlatinumGames’ masterpiece continues to sell.

Reaching an impressive 9 million copies with the recent announcement on Twitter (X) on 27 December 2024. A noteworthy detail is how back in February 2024, the team announced 8 million copies sold. Selling an additional million before the end of 2024 is remarkable.

NieR: Automata: Success Beyond Gaming

If NieR: Automata’s success exceeded Square Enix’s initial expectations, over the years the series has grown beyond video games, thanks to the already established Drakengard roots. With manga, novels, and even a 2023 anime series, NieR: Automata Ver1.1a.
