Xbox Game Pass Standard Price and Inclusions

There’s a lot of movement in the Game Pass world this year. And fast too. It was early July when Microsoft announced that Xbox Game Pass Console will be discontinued and will be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Standard. At that time, the discontinuance was in effect for new users but the Standard tier was still not available.

Then in August, a preview of this tier was available for Xbox Insiders for $1/month with no actual release date for the general public. And now, barely a month has passed, Microsoft has finally released Xbox Game Pass Standard with a $14.99 price tag per month.

This change was received with mixed opinions. Previous Console subscribers mostly did not like it because of the new tier’s removal of day-one titles. And chances are, the ones who make use of online gaming already have a Core subscription, so the Standard tier didn’t really give them a lot to work with.

On the other hand, a lot of Ultimate members have voiced out that they will be downgrading to Standard once their policy ends. While the Ultimate is a great subscription with many benefits, members do not get to maximize the tier and so does not justify the steep price they are paying.

Of course it really matters how one uses the subscription, of which Ultimate tier is at no fault. One thing is for sure though, the prices, regardless of which platform, have come a long way since the start of gaming subscription. And it doesn’t look like it’s stopping anytime soon.

So which plan is the best? Like mentioned, it depends on how you game and of course, how much you can spend for a gaming subscription per month. Does it bother you that you won’t be playing day-one titles on console? Do you prefer playing on the PC? Do you like playing EA games or at least have the option of its catalog?

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the Xbox Game Pass tiers:
