Nintendo officially announced that it’s discontinuing its Gold Points rewards program in March. What happens next?

My Nintendo Gold Points

For years, My Nintendo has been a staple rewards program for fans of Nintendo’s beloved games and consoles. The program has offered various incentives including Gold Points which have been a part of the rewards system for about seven years.

However, in a recent announcement, Nintendo confirmed that Gold Points will be discontinued.

My Nintendo Gold Points Discontinued in March 2025

Gold Points have allowed players to earn rewards by making digital purchases and registering physical game cartridges. Players could accumulate these points when they purchased games on the Nintendo eShop or redeemed codes from physical copies. The main benefit? These points could then be used for discounts on future digital purchases, making it a handy way to save money while expanding a game library.

Unfortunately, the Gold Points will be discontinued on March 25, 2025, at 12:30AM ET / 6:30AM CET. This means that after this date, players will no longer be able to earn new Gold Points from digital purchases. As for the physical copies, Gold Points can still be earned within one year from the original release date, considering that the launch date is before the cutoff.

While players won’t be able to earn new Gold Points after March 25, any existing points will still be available for use. According to Nintendo, any Gold Points tied to a user’s account as of March 25 will remain valid. Note though that the expiration still stands. Gold Points expire on the last day of the month, 12 months after they were earned.

My Nintendo Platinum Points Remains

Fortunately, the end of Gold Points does not affect Platinum Points. These points can still be earned and used for limited-time merchandise, digital downloads like wallpapers, and other exclusive rewards. However, unlike Gold Points with a 12 month redeem period, Platinum Points expire six months after being earned.

While the discontinuation of Gold Points is undoubtedly disappointing for many loyal Nintendo fans, at least Platinum Points remain available as a way to engage with My Nintendo’s reward system. Though a chapter is closing, there are still plenty of exciting opportunities left for My Nintendo members to enjoy.
