Microsoft’s E3 2019 Press Conference was filled with surprises and exciting announcements. In fact, that statement feels inadequate given the fact that they showcased dozens of games. There’s a lot to go through, so I’m cutting the intro right here.

Now, here are the highlights:

THE OUTER WORLDS

Microsoft opened up strong with a brand new trailer for Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. Not only did it give a great deal of background on the game’s story, but it also showcased a bit of gameplay. To top it all off, they finally revealed just when the game will be released.

The Outer Worlds will be launching on October 25th.

BLEEDING EDGE

This wasn’t the surprise Ninja Theory wanted it to be thanks to a leak that happened just before E3. Still, this is our first official look at Ninja Theory’s next game and it’s radically outside of their usual comfort zone as Bleeding Edge is a multiplayer brawler and the studio’s portfolio has only featured singleplayer games until now.

The game’s technical alpha kicks off on June 27th so watch out for details on how to get in soon.

ORI AND THE WILL OF THE WISPS

Finally, we now have a solid release date for the long-time-coming sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The release date trailer definitely showed that Moon Studios has upped their game for the next instalment and that it was definitely worth the wait.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps arrives on February 11th, 2020.

MINECRAFT DUNGEONS

We finally saw some Minecraft Dungeons gameplay at this year’s E3 and it looks like the spin-off is taking the iconic voxel-based sandbox game into the realm of co-op action RPGs. The trailer reveals the game will feature 4-player co-op both local and online. Diablo 3 with a Minecraft make-over? I’m game!

Minecraft Dungeons will come out in the Spring of next year.

CYBERPUNK 2077

This is probably one of the most exciting reveals of the show: CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 will feature Hollywood star, Keanu Reeves! Reeves also appeared during the press conference to promote the game in person.

Mark your calendars now as Cyberpunk 2077 launches on April 16th, 2020.

XBOX GAME PASS

Microsoft has finally announced that Xbox Game Pass for PC is now live in open beta. They also showcased games that are already available through Xbox Game Pass now and others coming to the subscription service on the day they launch.

Microsoft also announced an “Ultimate” version of the Xbox Game Pass which bundles Xbox One, PC and Live Gold in one subscription. You can try it out right now for just £1/1€ here.

PSYCHONAUTS 2

Not only did Microsoft bring a new trailer for Psychonauts 2 at E3, but they also announced that its developer, Double Fine Studios, has joined Xbox Game Studios. Founder Tim Schafer got the crowd laughing during his short time on stage then went right on to showing off the game’s first gameplay trailer.

Psychonauts 2 will be releasing this year but no specific date has been announced.

GEARS 5

The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson went on stage to announce that Gears 5 will be releasing on September 10th. Players who purchase the Ultimate Edition or subscribe to the newly announced Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get to play 4 days earlier. Fergusson also revealed a new mode called Escape which you can preview in the trailer below:

Microsoft also has several events lined up for the summer to promote the game up until its September launch.

FORZA HORIZON 4 LEGO SPEED CHAMPIONS

Here’s an expansion for Forza Horizon 4 you never knew you wanted and needed until Playground Games went ahead and announced it — LEGO Speed Champions. And by the looks of it, this will be a huge expansion as it doesn’t just add LEGO versions of your favourite cars but also a brand new LEGO world.

The expansion arrives on June 13th.

TALES OF ARISE

This game had some screenshots leaked just right before E3, but seeing its actual trailer was still exhilarating. Tales of Arise takes a huge leap on the graphical side over its predecessors and is really a sight to behold.

Tales of Arise is scheduled to release next year.

ELDEN RING

We finally got a glimpse of the game George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware are collaborating on. The trailer doesn’t really reveal much, but it is oozing of influences from both parties.

No release date or window was announced.

PROJECT SCARLETT

As expected, Microsoft took some time to talk about the next console in the Xbox family. It looks like eliminating load times was one of the main focuses of the engineering team. It promises to be 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One X and even boasts real-time ray tracing.

Project Scarlett, which will most likely be renamed, will arrive during the holiday season next year.

HALO INFINITE

Microsoft closed the show with a new cinematic trailer for Halo Infinite. The trailer showed what might be the opening scenes of the game. As always, Master Chief seems like he’s always ready for a fight. What he saw before the fight, though, he might not have been ready for.

Just right before the trailer started playing, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that Halo Infinite will be a launch title for Project Scarlett next year.

Here are some other games that were shown during the press conference. You can click on a game to view the E3 trailer.

And that’s it for Microsoft’s E3 showing this year. Team Xbox definitely outdid their show last year and there’s a lot to be excited about for both PC and Xbox One gamers in the near future.
