Metaphor: ReFantazio – The new trailer at TGS brings a surprise

At Tokyo Game Show 2024, during Microsoft’s presentation, Metaphor: ReFantazio was shown with a new trailer. The trailer reveals the prologue of Atlus’ new game, arriving on 11th October 2024, and also announces a demo available on all game platforms. An explosive trailer that shows snippets of combat as well as part of the story of this new Fantasy JRPG.

Set in a medieval-type fantasy universe, the game takes us to the Kingdom of Euchronia. A universe where magic exists, but is accessible to few, and now thrown into chaos with the assassination of the King and the struggle for the throne. Amidst all this, hordes of monsters and grotesque creatures known as “Humans” seem to join the chaos.

The protagonist, a young Elda, accompanied by the Fairy Gallica, must infiltrate Euchronia’s forces to try and save his friend and heir to the throne, struck by a curse. With the dream of uniting all races and stopping discrimination, as described in a mysterious novel from that world, we’ll meet allies and face dangers along the path to a better future.


Metaphor: ReFantazio – Play for Free with the Demo

With the announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2024, the Altus team has decided to let everyone try Metaphor: ReFantazio in advance. A substantial game demo is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam). The demo allows players to experience the entire Prologue, with a duration of about 4 hours, and the ability to import saved data into the full version. You’ll also meet some of the companions and enemies you’ll encounter later on.

The prologue plunges us into a fantasy world, where as a young Elda we must infiltrate the Kingdom of Euchronia to save our childhood friend, the prince. A classic fantasy beginning, but one that seems to hide a much more complex subplot. As the protagonist’s mysterious book is somehow connected to our world, and the grotesque creatures terrorizing the world are called “humans”.

On the gameplay side, Metaphor: ReFantazio uses the classic JRPG formula from Atlus, offering gameplay and style that strongly resembles Persona 5. With turn-based combat, a team of companions, and a system where magical attributes and weaknesses/resistances play an important role. With a release scheduled for 11th October 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio has already won over many thanks to its generous demo and a darker storyline.
