XBOX DOCUMENTS LEAK: MICROSOFT REVEALS FUTURE PLANS
Microsoft has recently submitted documents as part of the ongoing Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft court proceedings into their acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and they reveal the company’s plans up until 2030.
The leak is massive, and it reveals that Microsoft are planning a new controller, new console, an updated version of the Xbox Series X|S, and a possible acquisition of Valve or Nintendo.
A REFRESHED XBOX SERIES X|S
The leak shows a refresh version of the Xbox Series X named Brooklin, which will offer 2TB internal storage, faster Wi-Fi, a front-facing USB slot, reduced PSU power, and a new, sleek cyclindal design.
Suggested to be releasing as early as 2024, the Brooklin Xbox Series X is expected to cost $499 and will come alongside a new controller.
The refreshed version of the Xbox Series S, codenamed Ellewood, looks like it will come with 1TB internal storage, reduced power, and faster Wi-Fi.
THE NEW XBOX CONSOLE WILL LAUNCH 2028
We’re only a few years into the Xbox Series X|S, and already Microsoft is planning a new next-gen console for 2028. According to the court documents, things are already underway, and the new console will feature cloud hybrid gaming and will be an “immersive game and app platform.”
MICROSOFT PLANNING VALVE AND NINTENDO ACQUISITION
Microsoft has been making big moves in the last few years, buying gaming publishers and studios, and of course, the big one at the moment is the potential $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard that still rages on in the courts.
But that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from thinking forward, as the leaked court documents reveal the company is also eyeing Valve and Nintendo as possible companies to merge with or acquire.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard about Microsoft’s plans to join with Nintendo and Valve as Xbox CEO Phil Spencer was quoted as stating in an email to execs that Nintendo is “the prime asset” for them in gaming.
It’s worth noting that Microsoft has not made plans to merge or acquire either Nintendo or Valve, but if their acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, it may only be a matter of time before Microsoft looks to the next big deal.
