Marvel Rivals is a fast-paced, team-based multiplayer shooter that brings together iconic Marvel heroes and villains in dynamic 6v6 battles. Developed by NetEase Games, the game offers a unique blend of strategic combat and character abilities, allowing players to form powerful teams and unleash devastating synergies.

Often compared to Overwatch, Marvel Rivals shares a similar hero-based shooter structure, with a strong focus on teamwork, unique abilities, and diverse character roles. However, its Marvel-inspired setting and roster of beloved superheroes and villains help it carve out its own distinct identity in the competitive multiplayer space.

Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration Event

Despite its recent launch, the game is already introducing its first major in-game event, the Winter Celebration, launching on December 20 at 11PM PST / December 21 at 8AM CET.



A highlight of this event is Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, a limited-time 4v4 game mode inspired by Nintendo’s Splatoon. In this new mode, players control Jeff the Land Shark, aiming to cover the map in their team’s color, adding a unique and playful twist to the gameplay.

The Winter Celebration also brings a variety of themed cosmetics including a winter coat and earmuffs for Jeff, a Christmas tree outfit for Groot, and festive attire for Magik and Rocket Raccoon. Venom joins the festivities too with a costume that turns him into a blue ice monster. Note that only Jeff’s winter skin is free, the others will have to be bought with in-game currencies.

More from the event, players will receive a special winter greeting card from Jeff which includes “special gifts and surprises”. As to what exactly they are, it is yet to be revealed on the 20th.

Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play third-person hero shooter featuring Marvel’s iconic characters, was officially released on December 6, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
