FAITHFUL TO THE CLASSIC
The original Legend of Mana launched in 1999, and somehow the game was missed by a lot of people, which is a shame as it’s a beautiful game with memorable characters.
The HD remaster is as close to the original as a game can get, keeping the classic sprites but using updated and redrawn backgrounds to make everything on the screen pop.
Combat happens in real-time after the player encounters an enemy while traveling the game world.
Every character has its own hit points, and the player can equip characters with weapons, armors, and gear.
The game even includes split-screen co-op and PvP support.
NON-LINEAR STORYTELLING
At times Legend of Mana feels like a different kind of RPG, as it features non-linear storytelling.
The game features a Land Make system, allowing players to generate custom worlds by placing objects on the map.
Those objects you place become towns, fields, or even dungeons, and the system also has the added benefit of offering better replayability.
The idea behind the feature is to allow players to explore and complete quests however they want, without ever feeling like they can’t reach a particular point.
