Helldivers 2 Dead as 90% of PC Players Abandon Game
The PC player base for Helldivers 2 has now plummeted by 90%. Take advantage of the failing player numbers by buying your game key at a discount.
How Many People Are Playing Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 became PlayStation’s fastest-selling game ever in May of this year, but Arrowhead Game Studios third-person shooter has not had everything its own way. Player numbers on PC have plummeted and now 90% of its player base on PC has abandoned the live-service game.
After a massively successful launch, Helldivers 2 was the must-have game if you had a PS5 or PC when it launched in February. Sony in particular wanted the game to be proof the PlayStation 5 could handle a live-service title rather than the more popular single-player first-party games.
But all that has changed in just four months. After reaching a peak of 458,709 on Steam, the shooter is now down to a daily peak of roughly 44,000. It all seemed to go wrong for Helldivers 2 when Sony revealed players would need a PSN account to access the game from May 6. The enforcement of PSN saw the game pulled from stores in 177 countries where PSN is unavailable. Sony did backtrack, but it was all too late as the damage was done.
Calling Helldivers 2 dead may be too hasty, as we need an accurate PS5 player count. In truth, it’s more like life support, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to get its miracle recovery anytime soon.
