What is Final Fantasy XIV Online?
Final Fantasy XIV Online is an MMORPG set in the realm of Eorzea. In this medieval setting, accompanied by firearms and magic, there’s plenty to do. If you’re thinking, “Final Fantasy 14, hmm, I haven’t played the predecessors,” don’t worry. Final Fantasy 14 is a standalone game, so you don’t need prior knowledge from any of the predecessors to understand everything in this game.
Expect a world filled with vast landscapes that couldn’t be more different. Whether it’s vast deserts in one place or an impenetrable forest in another. Of course, there are also large cities where you can meet other players or trade with merchants. All of this comes with an exciting story that continues to expand through updates and is not yet concluded.
If you prefer to play Final Fantasy XIV alone, that’s not a problem either. Thanks to the Duty Support system, you can defeat your enemies with a group of NPCs instead of doing so in a group with other players. If you prefer to fight in a large party, you should join a guild to meet other adventurers.

Final Fantasy XIV Online was released yesterday in open beta for the Xbox Series X|S. So you can play it for free. The free trial allows you to play on the Xbox Series X|S up to level 70 without a time limit. Additionally, the DLCs Heavensward and Stormblood are available. Both consoles will even support 4K for Final Fantasy XIV Online.
Any progress you make during the open beta will seamlessly carry over when the game officially launches, without any losses. When the game officially launches, the price will likely be offered as a subscription model, just like on PC. There’s no exact price or release date yet.
