The Elder Scrolls: The remake nobody expected… but everyone wants!

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (TES IV or Oblivion) is the fourth installment of Bethesda’s legendary open-world Fantasy RPG series. Released in 2006, just four years after the beloved Morrowind. Taking us to the province of Cyrodiil with a new threat from the demonic gates connecting to the realm of Oblivion.

Despite being one of the team’s most problematic game, Oblivion was a huge success. Notoriously infamous for the numerous bugs, unnatural dialogue and voice acting, and poorly coded AI. Yet none of these issues hindered its popularity in the slightest. Offering a great fantasy RPG entry with a strong charm to it.

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remake: The New Rumors

This news traces back to a document leak from a few years ago. The document, which surfaced during Microsoft’s acquisition of Blizzard, mentioned an Oblivion Remake planned for 2022. Many saw this as confirmation of the project’s existence, and now it has resurfaced once again amidst new rumors.

Rumors point to the LinkedIn profile of Oleksii Moskovchenko, specifically his role as an Art Director at Virtuos. The team is reportedly working on an unspecified Remake for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (mention now removed from his profile). And seemingly announcement to come during an upcoming Xbox Developer Direct.

The Oblivion Remake: What Doesn’t Add Up in the Rumors?

The TES IV Oblivion Remake rumors stem from the community’s desire to see the game in a cleaner, more optimized form. But these recent rumors are odd, as they suggest a Remake on Unreal Engine 5, while Bethesda has always preferred their proprietary Creation Engine, formerly known as Gamebryo.

However, the dream of an Oblivion Remake isn’t dead. The fan project Skyblivion, a remake of Oblivion as a Skyrim mod, is nearly ready and will launch in 2025. That said, it’s not impossible for TES to receive a Remake, especially for its earlier entries that many fans want to see modernized.
