Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Closing Its Doors in 2025

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is officially shutting down its servers in early 2025, ending Wizard of the Coast’s attempts to revive the Dark Alliance brand. Servers will close on February 24, 2025, with the game taken down from all storefronts.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, the 4-player co-op action brawler from Invoke Studios and Wizards of the Coast is going offline in early 2025. The announcement comes three years after the Dark Alliance’s launch, with the developer working on a new game in the set in the D&D universe.

Dark Alliance never really got going when it released in June 2021, with 83% of its player base dropping off on Steam by the following month. The end of the game’s life was seemingly inevitable once developer Invoke Studios was confirmed to be working on a new title. Although Dark Alliance will remain playable offline, the servers will officially shut down on February 24, 2025, with the game also getting removed from storefronts.

What This Means for Players

Players who own Dark Alliance can continue playing the base game and all DLC when the servers go offline. Unfortunately, the ability to join friends and play online will cease. Anyone wishing to pick the game up must do so before February 24, as Wizards of the Coast is delisting it from stores that day.

What’s Next for Dungeons & Dragons?

Developer Invoke Studios is working on a new triple-A Dungeons & Dragons title, while Wizards of the Coast continues to work on other D&D projects, attempting to build on the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. There are currently five D&D games in development, including a VR game, a survival RPG, and a co-op game.

Although Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is shutting down, the future of D&D games looks bright. Unfortunately, fans will compare all future D&D titles against BG3, which is a very high bar.
