KoekeN has laid off its entire team after the developer announced a lack of publishing and work for hire options.

Deliver US Mars developer KoekeN has announced the layoff of its entire team after, with CEO Koen Deetman vowing to rebuild the company “brick by brick.”
Announcing the decision on X, the developer wrote “Heartbroken, we’ve had to lay off our team at KeokeN because of nothing substantial materializing directly after our visit to GDC. We’ve unfortunately exhausted all our possible options for publishing, work for hire, and co-development.”
Although it comes as horrible news for everyone affected, the company will continue to work on the upcoming game Deliver Us Home, the third game in the Deliver Us series, with the game set to land on Kickstarter to help with funding. In the post on X, Deetman added: “This is one small step for KeokeN, one giant leap for Delivering Us Home,” the post adds. “A game we will build for you and with you.”

Unfortunately for the gaming industry, this is yet another blow after recent layoffs at Blizzard Entertainment, EA, and, most recently, Take-Two Interactive. 2024 has been a rough start for those working in gaming as more and more companies look to streamline for an uncertain future.

Deliver Us The Moon and Deliver Us Mars were games I enjoyed a lot, not without flaws but they had an interesting story, good visuals and an overall relaxing gameplay. Sad to read the entire team is being laid off, hope they manage to find another place in the gaming industry as many of them are certainly skilled considering their previous projects.
